Best Ever Sporting Event

I’m a sports fan. I’ve been to lots of different sporting events over the years.

In the 60s we used to go to Candlestick Park once a year with our little league team. In the 70s I enjoyed watching the Oakland As and the San Francisco 49ers both win championships. In the 80s we were living in MN and the Minnesota Twins won the World Series in 87 and 91. When we moved to Chicagoland in 91, the Chicago Bulls started their championship run winning six times in the next eight years. When we moved to Princeton in 96, the NY Yankees won five championships between 96 and 00.

So, I guess it’s fair to say I’m used to seeing championship teams. And maybe, just maybe, I’m a bit of a good luck charm for the local professional team

But I think the most excited I ever got attending an event was going to Wimbledon by myself in 1982 after vacationing in Europe with Liz and she flew home early to get back to work. I got to see Jimmy Conners, Bjorn Borg and Chrissie Evert all play on Center Court on the same day. It was such an experience and my first time in London. It felt so good to have that kind of freedom. I think I wandered the streets of London until late that night. I was not going to fly home the next day without fully experiencing London.
