Best Ever Meal

We’ve eaten in restaurants all over the world. Paris, London, Tokyo, Singapore, Rome. But the best meal we ever had was right here in the USA overlooking the Las Vegas Strip and the Bellagio Fountain.

May 2007. Kyle had just graduated from the University of Redlands and we had invited the extended family to have dinner with us at Prime Steakhouse at the Bellagio where we were staying.

There were sixteen of us (including Liz’s mom Mary) sitting at one long table and I was taking both still pictures and shooting video. I ordered some very nice bottles of cabernet sauvignon which just kept getting reordered as there were only two under-aged teens at the table and everyone was apparently enjoying the smoothness and quality of the well-aged cab.

It would have been a very fine meal had it stopped there. But the maitre d came up to me as we were finishing and asked if we would like to move to the outdoor patio for dessert. This had not been pre-arranged.

I jumped at the opportunity so we all moved outdoors and ordered dessert and after-dinner drinks on the patio. It was a lovely evening and we lingered as long as we could, drinking way too much, and taking lots of photos all along the way.

It was a night to remember. You don’t want to know what the total bill came to. I think we ordered 12 bottles of wine plus the after dinner drinks.What a meal. What a celebration. Easily the best meal of our lives.
