Best Ever Golf Course
This is another tough category to choose from. I’ve played many of the top courses in the world including Pebble, Royal County Down, Pinehurst, TPC Sawgrass, Olympic, Turnberry, Bandon Dunes, and many others.
But the course that stands out the most in my mind was our last course in Ireland (Old Head) when our Verrado group played nine different courses in ten days. It was an awesome experience, probably the most impressive list of courses I’ve ever played in such a short stretch of time.
Old Head is on the southern coast of Ireland on a scenic peninsula with views of the ocean from nearly every hole. You could literally take pictures on every hole and I pretty much did.
One of my playing partners that day was Merv Dusyk who I had gotten to know very well while living in Verrado. Merv was a championship senior golfer from Canada and quite competitive. But I got the better of him that day which he was not all that happy with. It also turns out that it was my last round with Merv. He passed away a few years later and we never got to play together again.
I plan to go back to Old Head one day. They have a luxurious hotel on property and I wouldn’t mind staying and playing there for a few days and exploring Southern Ireland a bit more.
